Privacy

Short version: we only collect your email address, and only if you sign up for the newsletter. No analytics, no tracking cookies, no ads.

Browsing the site

  • The site is a set of plain pages. You don't need an account and we don't ask for your name.
  • We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and the pages don't load scripts, fonts or images from other companies.
  • Like any website, the hosting service that delivers these pages handles basic technical data, such as your IP address, in order to send the page to you.

What stays in your browser

To avoid showing the newsletter popup too often, the site saves three small flags in your own browser (localStorage and sessionStorage). They never leave your device and you can clear them in your browser settings at any time:

  • ccNlShown (sessionStorage): the popup was already shown in this visit (cleared when you close the tab)
  • ccNlClosedAt (localStorage): when you last closed the popup, so it stays away for 7 days
  • ccNlSub (localStorage): that you subscribed, so the popup doesn't appear again

The newsletter

  • If you sign up, your email address is sent to Kit (kit.com), the email service that stores our subscriber list and sends the daily brief. We don't ask for anything else.
  • Kit sends you an email to confirm your sign-up first. Like most email services, Kit may record whether an email is opened or a link is clicked.
  • We use your email only to send the newsletter. We don't sell it or share it with vendors or sponsors.
  • Every email has an unsubscribe link. You can unsubscribe any time, and you can email us to have your address deleted.

Links to other sites

Vendor links, source links and the share buttons (Facebook, WhatsApp) take you to other companies' sites, which have their own privacy policies. Nothing is sent to them until you click. Copy link only uses your device's clipboard.

Your rights and contact

We aim to handle personal data in line with Malaysia's Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (PDPA). You can ask to see, correct or delete the email address we hold about you, or ask any privacy question, by emailing weathergentleman@gmail.com.
